Etymology

From one of several dialectal variants of an original form turpāk (further), the comparative of turp (to there, thither): turpanāk, turpenāk, turpināk, reduced to turpnāk → standard turpmāk with assimilation of p-n to p-m. The adjective form was later created by analogy.[1]
