thikë

Albanian

Etymology

From Proto-Albanian *tsikā, derived from Proto-Indo-European *ḱeh₃- (to sharpen), compare Armenian սուր (sur, sharp; knife).[1] Often considered to be the source of Latin sica.[2] Meyer (1891) considers a borrowing from Latin sīca (a poniard, curved dagger), but this is unlikely and outdated as Albanian was misunderstood as a Latin language.[3] Cognate with Sanskrit शा (śā, to sharpen).
