Etymology
Formed as: tachy- + -on, representing a hypothetical Ancient Greek etymon of the form *ταχυόν (takhuón, “a quick thing”), from ταχύς (takhús, “swift”, “rapid”).
Coined by American physicist Gerald Feinberg in 1967.
