Etymology

A wanderword. Via Medieval Latin siruppus, syrupus, from Arabic شَرَاب (šarāb, a drink, beverage, wine, coffee, syrup), from شَرِبَ (šariba, to drink). Compare German Sirup, French sirop, Italian sciroppo.[1]
