1. important, significant (which has great value, significance, impact)

   svarīgs lēmums, uzdevums ― important decision, task

   svarīgs atzinums, notikums ― important fiding, event

   svarīgs jautājums, arguments ― important question, argument

   svarīga saruna ― important conversation

   svarīgas ziņas ― important news

   svarīgi viesi ― important guests

2. (of time periods) important, significant (when something of importance happened or may happen)

   svarīgs dzīves posms ― an important stage of life

3. (of people) important, proud, having high social position
