Ancient Greek στρῶμα (strôma) coverlet of a bed, plural στρώματα (strṓmata), patchwork (for such a coverlet), also applied to several miscellaneous writings, from anything spread out for resting upon, a bed, from the verb στόρνυμι (stórnumi, spread out).
