Etymology
Compound of stål (“steel”) + -ar (“plural suffix”), via the cant Older Månsing, possibly as peddlers from Västergötland is said to have used steel objects as means of payment. First attested in 1893.[1]
Usage notes
- Should not be confused with the plural form of stål (“steel”), which always retain its singular form even in plural.
