Alternative forms
Noun
soccer mom (plural soccer moms)
- A woman with school-age children, likely boys, especially one who spends time transporting them between sporting activities.
- (US) A stereotypical woman, typically middle-class, who is overprotective of her children and often overambitious and bragging about their success.
Usage notes
The term soccer dad is sometimes applied to fathers, but it does not have the same connotations. It is also more likely to refer to a father who coaches children's soccer or plays soccer himself. While soccer mum is used as an exact equivalent of soccer mom in some Commonwealth countries, it’s only used in Britain to refer to an American soccer mom.
