snake tail (plural snake tails)
- Ophiopsammus maculata - a reddish-brown starfish with five smooth, rounded, jointed arms, each tapered towards the tip growing up to 300 mm across. Commonly found amongst seaweed from low-tide to about 20 m depth throughout New Zealand.
