Etymology 1

From Proto-Indo-European *ksew-. Cognate with Ancient Greek ξύω (xúō, to shave), Latin saucius (hurt, wounded) and Sanskrit क्षुर (kṣurá, razor). Alternatively from a root *skewt-; compare Irish scaitheamh.
