Etymology

From either Proto-Albanian *sternā, from Proto-Indo-European *ster-neh₂, or Proto-Albanian *sterjā, from Proto-Indo-European *stér-ih₂ ~ *str̥-yéh₂-s, both from Proto-Indo-European *ster- (barren). Alternatively borrowed from Romanian știră (sterile).[1]
