From Vulgar Latin *expedītāre, from Latin expedīre (to entrict, disengage).[1] Alternatively, a verbal formation with a prefix denoting the movement away from something from Proto-Indo-European *peth₂- (to spread out; to fly), connected to pjetë (widening; sky).[2]
