shkurt

Albanian

Etymology

According to Guillaume Bonnet, possibly from Proto-Germanic *skurtaz. Alternatively borrowed from reconstructed Vulgar Latin *excurtus (cf. Italian scurto, Romanian scurt, Aromanian shcurtu), derivative of Latin curtus. The Albanian, (reconstructed) Latin, and Germanic terms developed in the same way. A borrowing theory does not explain the sense developement and progression of the Albanian root itself.[1]
