  1. (construction) A supporting post designed to span longer openings than a king post.
    • 1948 November and December, “River Wye Bridge, Chepstow”, in Railway Magazine, page 354:
      The bridge carries a double track, and consists of a 300 ft. span, supported on queen post trusses, over the river, and three 100-ft. spans at the Chepstow end.
