  1. (botany) a segment of plant stem which is characterised by possession of more than a single stele.[1]
    • 1960, Proceedings of the National Institute of Sciences of India, page 89:
      In a stele prior to the breaking up into a polystele, phloem strand becomes “U”-shaped.
