polyclinic

English

Etymology

poly- + clinic

Pronunciation

  • Rhymes: -ɪnɪk

Noun

polyclinic (plural polyclinics)

  1. A usually private clinic in which diseases of many sorts are treated.

Usage notes

Not to be confused with policlinic, a very rare term (pronounced the same way) not found in most UK dictionaries and only rarely used by US medical professionals for independent outpatient clinics and for outpatient departments of European hospitals (especially originally, an institution in which clinical instruction is given in all kinds of diseases).
