Compound pette-gislo. The second part is from Proto-Balto-Slavic *giʔ(s)laʔ, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷiHl-. Cognate with Lithuanian gýsla (“vein”), Latvian dzīsla (“vein”) and Common Slavic *žila (“vein, tendon”).
