Unknown. Influenced by râu (river), compare Megleno-Romanian păroi. Possibly from a Slavic language (compare Bulgarian порой (poroj)). Alternative theories suggest Albanian përrua, Thracian *parau(t) and Greek *παρροή (*parroḯ), from παραρροή (pararroḯ).[1]
