oligolege
English
Noun
oligolege (plural oligoleges)
- A pollinator exhibiting oligolecty.
- 2006, Nickolas M. Waser, Jeff Ollerton, Plant-Pollinator Interactions: From Specialization to Generalization:
- How does an oligolege respond if its pollen hosts fail to bloom? Most oligoleges have one generation per year (univoltine), so adult emergence can and must synchronize with host bloom (e.g., Cane and Payne 1993). Interestingly, a few oligoleges such as Calliopsis hesperia equina and C. helianthi are reportedly bivoltine (Rozen 1958). Some oligoleges seem to be obligate oligoleges, refusing to provision or even nest in the absence of their floral host.
