Etymology
Probably an abbreviation of obsolete neuropilema, from Ancient Greek νεῦρον (neûron, “nerve”) + πίλημα (pílēma, “felt”);[1] or neuro- + Ancient Greek πῖλος (pîlos, “hair”).[2]
