Etymology

By analogy with nerf bar. Invented by ATV racer Brian Fry in 1985.

nerf net (plural nerf nets)

  1. A net running between a nerf bar on a vehicle and the vehicle itself, in order to prevent the driver's leg getting caught between the two.
    Those nerf nets may look weird, but they've saved me a lot of pain.
