nalala
Hawaiian
Etymology
Coined by the Hawaiian Lexicon Committee in 2002 as a 'borrowing' (simulating the expected changes had the word been inherited) from the reconstruction Proto-Polynesian *ngarara (“lizard”) (compare Maori ngārara (“lizard”)).
