From Italian myristico, from Late Latin myristicus (fragrant); the form Myristica first used by Linnaeus as a genus name for the nutmeg tree. From Byzantine Greek μυριστικός (muristikós, fragrant), from Ancient Greek μυρίζειν (murízein, to anoint), from μύρον (múron, unguent, perfume). Compare myronic.
