From Proto-Albanian *melwa, from Proto-Indo-European *melh₂-wo-m, from *melh₂- (“to grind up”),[1] close to German Mehl (“id”), Greek μύλος (mýlos), Latin molere. Compare also Romanian mălai. Ultimately a doublet of mëllë.
