massieren

German

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): /maˈsiːrən/, [maˈsiːʁən], [-ˈsiː.ɐn], [-ˈsi(ː)ɐ̯n]
  • (file)

Etymology 1

Borrowed from French masser, probably from Arabic مَسَّ (massa, to touch), or from Portuguese amassar. The Arabic verb was, in French, associated with and perhaps reinforced by unrelated Ancient Greek μάσσειν (mássein, to knead), but direct derivation from this latter is now considered unlikely.

Verb

massieren (weak, third-person singular present massiert, past tense massierte, past participle massiert, auxiliary haben)

  1. (transitive or intransitive) to massage
    Synonyms: kneten, walken
