Etymology

Italian pizza Margherita, from Margherita of Savoy, the Queen of Italy, at the time the pizza pie was renamed/formally named in her honour, with the colours of the Italian flag of reunification, red (tomato), white (mozzarella), green (basil). Pizza topped in this manner was already traditional in Naples before acquiring its current name.
