Etymology
Borrowed from Armenian մամուխ (mamux, “sloe”).[1][2] Boretzky and Igla (1994) compared it with Persian مهمیز (mahmiz) and Turkish mahmūz (“spur, goad”) without knowing about the Armenian word.[3]
