From Greek λουκουμάδες (loukoumádes), ultimately from Arabic لُقْمَة (luqma, morsel).

  1. Pastries made of deep-fried dough soaked in sugar syrup or honey and cinnamon, and sometimes sprinkled with sesame. (used especially of the Greek version of these pastries)
