From the older form lecconerìa, either from leccare (lick, verb), or from Old High German lecchari or lecchōn, from Ancient Greek λιχνεία (likhneía, gluttony; greed). Cognate with Latin lingō (lick, verb) Ancient Greek λείχω (leíkhō, lick up) and German lecker (tasty).
