  2. to digress; to try to avoid talking about something; to turn away
    • 1936, Vũ Trọng Phụng, chapter 2, in Số đỏ, Hà Nội báo:
      Muốn lảng chuyện, ông ta bảo người lính xuống nhà giam tạm, lôi bọn người bị bắt lên lấy cung.
      Wishing to turn the conversation away [from this topic], he told the policeman to go down to the temporary prison and drag the arrested people up for interrogation.
