From Proto-Albanian *(a)lōu-m- ((threshing-, malting-)floor), with enlargement in -mo- or -mn/men-. Cognate to Ancient Greek ἅλως (hálōs, (threshing-)floor), Old Norse lófi ((threshing-)floor), Old High German lam (lame).[1]
