Inherited from Ottoman Turkish قوریمق (korumak), itself from Common Turkic *kōrï-. Cognate with Azerbaijani qorumaq (to protect), Old Turkic 𐰸𐰆𐰺 (korï-, to protect), Uzbek qoʻrimoq (to protect).
