Etymology

From Proto-Tocharian *kuk(ä)le (whence also Tocharian A kukäl), from Proto-Indo-European kʷékʷlos, a form of *kʷel- (to turn) (compare klutk- (to turn)). Cognate with English wheel, Ancient Greek κύκλος (kúklos), Lithuanian kaklas (neck), etc.
