Compare Greek καλαμπόκι (kalampóki), Romanian călambuc, Aromanian cãlãmbuchi; see more at Ottoman Turkish قلمبك (kalembek). Probably ultimately from Malay kalambaq and reshaped in terms of the unrelated Albanian kallam by folk etymology.
