    The knight fought the dragon
    att kämpa för rättvisa villkor
    to fight for fair conditions
    Han kämpade mot cancern
He battled (idiomatically) his cancer (strida (battle) sounds overly militaristic in Swedish here)

Usage notes

Like kamp, kämpa can be thought of as having the basic meaning struggle, except often unidiomatic as a translation. As an example, "Kämpa!" (Fight! / Give it all you got!) can be more literally translated as "Struggle!", as in "Put in (maximum) effort!"
