iwwerzeegen
Luxembourgish
Etymology
From Middle High German überzeigen, alteration (after zeigen (“to show”)) of überziugen (which would have yielded Luxembourgish *iwwerzeien). Cognate with German überzeugen, Dutch overtuigen. The underlying verb zeegen was otherwise lost in Luxembourgish (but see Zär). For the preservation of intervocalic -g- as a gliding sound after Middle High German -ei- compare eegen.
