infirmité motrice cérébrale
French
Etymology
First used by Professor Guy Tardieu in 1955
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /ɛ̃.fiʁ.mi.te mɔ.tʁis se.ʁe.bʁal/
Notes
The term is more widely used in France than paralysie cérébrale and sometimes used synonymously instead. However, the main difference is that IMC is a motor disorder “accompanied by sensory impairment and partial impairment of higher functions with the exception of intellectual problems”. This is included under the definition of paralysie cérébrale, so is a more general term or a hypernym. The term infirmité motrice d'origine cérébrale has also been proposed to cover the broader meaning. [1]
