Etymology
From *hrada (“a move”) + mūs, from Proto-Indo-European *krew- (“to shake, wave around”), related to Tocharian A kru (“reed”), Tocharian B kärwats, Lithuanian krutéti (“to move”).[1] Compare Old English hreaðemūs (“bat”).
