From Proto-Albanian *kʰandnā, from earlier *skond-nah₂, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kand- (“to shine”) (compare Welsh can (“white”), Latin candeō (“to shine, gleam”), Sanskrit चन्द्र (candrá, “shining; moon”)).[1] Possibly borrowed from Proto-Celtic *kando-[2]
