Etymology
From Old Albanian gjuonj, from dialectal Tosk gjonj, from Proto-Albanian *jāgnja, denominative of *jaga (“hunt”). More at gjah. Alternatively from Proto-Albanian *śāgn-, from Proto-Indo-European *seh₂g- (“to seek out”), cognate to Latin sagiō (“acute sentire, to feel”). Phonetically, *seh₂g-mi is also possible.[1]
