Etymology

From Old Albanian gjuonj, from dialectal Tosk gjonj, from Proto-Albanian *jāgnja, denominative of *jaga (hunt). More at gjah. Alternatively from Proto-Albanian *śāgn-, from Proto-Indo-European *seh₂g- (to seek out), cognate to Latin sagiō (acute sentire, to feel). Phonetically, *seh₂g-mi is also possible.[1]
