From Proto-Albanian *saina, from Proto-Indo-European *sh₁i-nos, from the root *seh₁- (“long, lasting”).[1] Compare Gothic 𐍃𐌴𐌹𐌸𐌿𐍃 (seiþus, “late”), Old Irish sír (“long, lasting”).
