From Proto-Albanian *ǵákə, from earlier Proto-Albanian *źak-, from Proto-Indo-European *sokʷos (“sap, resin”). Compare Lithuanian sakaĩ (“resin”), Ancient Greek ὀπός (opós, “sap”), Proto-Slavic *sokъ (“juice”).[1]
