gawwi
Maltese
Etymology
Eventually from Latin gāvia. Predominantly thought to have been inherited through dialectal North African Arabic, where the word is apparently still attested in some areas. If so, possibly transmitted through a Berber language. Compare Tunisian Arabic ڨاوية (gāwya).
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /ˈɡaw.wɪ/
