Albanian
Etymology
Borrowed through Vulgar Latin from Latin fossa (“ditch, moat”).[1] However, Çabej identifies it as an inherited word from Proto-Albanian *pl̥thu̯iām.[2][3] Matasevic claims it has no known etymology.[4]
