From Middle Low German vlucht, from Proto-West Germanic *fluhti (“flight”), cognate with English flight, German Flucht, Dutch vlucht. A conflation of two different nouns derived from two different verbs, *fleuhaną (“to flee”) and *fleuganą (“to fly”).
