Inherited as a mixture of Late Latin exfrōns (barefaced, shameless), īnfrontātus (without shame) - based on frōns (forehead; countenance; shame). Compare Medieval Latin īnfrū̆nītus, īnfronītus, effronītus (shameless, senseless, silly, impetuous), effronter (shamelessly).
