Etymology

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish اجزاخانه (eczāhāne),[1] from Arabic أَجْزَاء (ʔajzāʔ) + Persian خانه (xâne), equivalent to ecza (drugs, medicine) + hane (house). Compare hastane, postane, pastane for the transformation of hane in a compound.
