Borrowed from Old Church Slavonic догънати (dogŭnati), from гънати (gŭnati), from Proto-Slavic *gъnati. Cognates include Bulgarian догоня (dogonja), Russian догонять (dogonjatʹ, “to chase, to catch up”).
