Etymology
From Old Irish dairid, from Proto-Celtic *daryeti, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰerh₃- (“to leap, spring”). Cognate with Ancient Greek θρῴσκω (thrṓiskō, “to leap, attack”), Latvian dur̃t (“to stab, thrust, prick, jab”).[1]
