Etymology

From Proto-Albanian *deupa, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰewp-, *dʰewb- (deep, hollow). Cognate to Lithuanian dubùs (deep, hollow), English deep. Ancient Greek δέπας (dépas, beaker, goblet) represents a Proto-Albanian loanword.[1] According to Orel, borrowed from Ancient Greek δέπας (dépas).[2]
