Etymology
From Proto-Albanian *deupa, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰewp-, *dʰewb- (“deep, hollow”). Cognate to Lithuanian dubùs (“deep, hollow”), English deep. Ancient Greek δέπας (dépas, “beaker, goblet”) represents a Proto-Albanian loanword.[1] According to Orel, borrowed from Ancient Greek δέπας (dépas).[2]
